Price guide

The majority of memorial stones we create at Stonewriters are bespoke and therefore priced individually.  However we do understand that our customers appreciate a pricing guide before they contact us, and we make available a catalogue showing photos of available designs which you may find helpful.  Please bear in mind that prices vary according to stone type, size, shape and amount of lettering and decoration.

This information is intended as a guide only and all prices include fixing to the National Association of Memorial Masons Code Of Working Practice, but does not include Church and Local Authority permit fees, which vary.

Opening Range

Granite lawn-type headstones of a standard size start at £488.50 which includes up to 80 enamelled letters.  Although these types of memorial are at the lower end of our pricing range, we do take pride in designing the layout of the lettering to its very best advantage.  Even the simplest design will be very effective if careful attention to the layout and spacing is given.

Mid Range

Stonewriters specialise in lettering which incorporates decorative elements and flourishes (as opposed to standard fonts).  This can greatly enhance the overall effect of the stone, and the harder stones such as granite appear to be hand cut due to the unique, sensitive design.   An example of a monolith type headstone made in this way would be £1,250 for a 2’6” (this would also include up to 80 letters).

Premium Range

At the top end of our range are memorials with bespoke designed lettering, being hand-cut in the traditional way with a chisel and mallet (known as a dummy). These are usually monolith type headstones and include the more expensive types of British stone such as slate, yorkstone and Portland stone. Prices start from as little as £1,500 and typically cost in the region of £2,000 - £3,000.
