Memorial Renovation
Over time stone memorials can require renovation in the form of cleaning, fixing and levelling, and sometimes re-carving of lettering. We welcome enquiries for these services and will usually visit the memorial before submitting a quotation. Sometimes we are not able to carry out the renovation work in situ and it is necessary to remove all of the stonework to our workshop. The results are usually stunning and cost very little compared to commissioning a completely new memorial.
When stone is weathered and takes on lichens, algae and moss, it is sometimes difficult to tell what sort of stone it is. There is a common misconception that the older stones are made of concrete but they are not.

This type of stone is called Nabresina and is becoming increasingly rare. The plaque has been lifted, levelled, cleaned and the inscription has been repainted.

As you can see, this memorial was in need of some care and attention; As well as cleaning and repainting the inscription, the kerbs needed refixing and the whole memorial needed lifting and levelling.
The memorial has now been fixed back together and cleaned, and the inscription has been repainted with enamel - quite a transformation.

It is difficult to keep memorials clean when they are directly under trees, and this memorial was no exception. The whole memorial was removed for cleaning and to have an added inscription and then returned to its original position.

This white marble grave has been lifted, levelled and cleaned and the inscription has been renovated. When memorials lay flat the lettering does sometimes deteriorated with weathering (as water and ice can sit in the inscribed letters) but if they are cleaned regularly of algae and dirt they can usually stay pristine for many years.
